The Great Invitation

like a wild seed
in a wide plain.
The wind that rips
through your belly
when you are afraid,
that does not stop you
from inviting
strangers inside.

Abby is 29, from West Bend, Wisconsin, USA. She thrives on interpersonal interaction, finding no problem talking to strangers about their interior worlds well into the night. Her job as a bartender has undoubtedly pushed her forward in this regard, helping people (with her openness, not just her booze) knock down their walls. While she has lived most of her life in the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin, last year she moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where her life has begun to unfold in exciting ways—meeting new people from different backgrounds and finding out who she is inside from all the changes made on the outside. Her soul is inviting, and her poem is aptly named for that. This photo was taken on the outskirts of Lousiville, Kentucky.
