Tell
me
about
the
origin
of
your
chaos.
Mine
begins
with
fire.

If passion is your strength, if you feel a drive toward the things you want with the fervor of fire inside you, perhaps there is a chance you can relate to the equal fire that occurs in your temper. Snap. Like when lightning hits a tree and a branch the size of a house falls. Like a hiss from a mouth, or rather, from a mind. We can learn to control it if we try really hard. We can be passionate and peaceful. We can give others the benefit of the doubt. We can use our fire to make light rather than burn down a forest. It’s up to us. Salma, I wrote this poem for you because I see it in you. I also know exactly how this feels. I’m sure others do too. We just have to figure out how to use it best. ++ This photo was taken on a peak overlooking Salzburg, Austria, where Salma currently resides. She is originally from Mexico City.
