For the ones we love
we are the dancers
in the desert.

In the midst of hikes around the Valley of Fire, today’s episode was born. It is about love in friendship, and how true, genuine love unearths beauty and mystical happiness. How going to a place like the Valley of Fire is lovely on its own, yet somehow can be still lovelier when you get to share the experience with someone special to you. It’s also about the way this kind of true love ignites. It brings out the best in us. It helps us be our greatest selves. I wrote about friendship before and I will write about it again and again, because I feel like it is too easy to forget how important it is for us to spend time with not just our lovers, but our friends. Jessica Lynch is on the right and I am on the left here. This is a piece to honor our friendship and our fierce bond. We don’t live in the same place anymore, so when we see each other, I always feel like my soul has been cleansed and refilled with the warmth and wisdom she so seamlessly bestows. I feel at ease, I feel free, I feel joy. And when we are apart too long, something starts to feel missing. Does that happen to anyone else, that too much time apart makes life blurrier and then time together again creates clarity? It’s a breathtaking aspect of my friendship with Jess, something I cherish with my whole being. And thanks to my amazing mom for taking this photo even though it was her first time using a DSLR. She is a fast learner!
